The Opportunity:
The Viticulture Technician will serve as a skilled technical specialist supporting viticulture and grape physiology research. Requires knowledge of: viticulture techniques and understanding of wine and juice grape production practices; proper use of farm equipment and pesticides; basic understanding of plant structure and physiological processes; basic engineering skills; ability to prepare laboratory chemicals and use techniques for determining plant components and grape quality. Proper operation of field, greenhouse, and laboratory equipment, including but not limited to tractors, sprayer equipment, pressure chamber, neutron probe, gas exchange system, chlorophyll meter, differential thermal analysis system, spectrophotometer, refractometer, titrator, pH meter. Organization and planning of work for subordinates, training of subordinates in rudimentary field and laboratory skills, processing methodology and collection of field data. Precise and reproducible laboratory and field techniques are required. Keep accurate and orderly records of procedures used and results.

This is a full (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,477.00 - $4,632.00 | Range 40 | Steps A-M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=357-28 .
In accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in the applied, biological, chemical, physical OR agricultural sciences, AND one year of experience as an Agricultural Research Technologist 1; OR equivalent education/experience.
• Employee will be required to work during normal business hours but will also need to be available to work early or late or on weekends as situations arise.
• Travel to training sessions that may be up to four hours from the home station, and occasionally require overnight stays.
• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/#four_3 and departmental driving standards.
• Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain a valid public applicator's license for pesticides with 5 months of start date.
• Must maintain radiation worker approval and maintain a personal dosimetry badge.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master of Science in viticulture, horticulture, agriculture or engineering degree.
• Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish.
