- Lead the Cost Management team on specific client commissions, making sure that the team delivers on all accountabilities.
- Set a clear strategy and ambition for the team through undertaking performance reviews, line management duties and providing mentorship to the team across all Quantity Surveying/Cost Management competencies.
- Input into the formal management of staff and recruitment interviews.
- Take a lead role in interfacing with the client, stakeholders and other consultants, at all project stages
- Identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates and products.
- Take responsibility for identifying and developing new business opportunities with existing and new clients.
- Prepare, lead and present cost estimates using market data, first principals estimating methods and outline risks, opportunities and impacts of construction escalation.
- Prepare and lead cost management team estimating tasks using CostX or equivalent while maintaining ability to pivot to management tasks.
- Manage post contract cost variances and the change control processes assessing change order validity and quantum in line with the contract.
- Prepare and advise clients on value management, value engineering, and life cycle costing.
- Prepare written comments to the general contractor’s submissions, including the review of the exclusions, contingencies and contractor costs and provide recommendations to the client.
- Understand and advise client on cost (material prices, labor, productivities), third party costs as well as cashflow forecasts, LLE dates, procurement approach (GMP, Lump Sum etc.) and overall project/program costs.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and 5 years of experience in job offered or 5 years of experience as a Sr. Consultant or any other job title performing the following job duties:
- Develop detailed cost estimates from drawings and specifications;
- Assist with negotiating costs;
- Provide visual representations of costs;
- Produce tender lists of potential bidders alongside clients procurement team and create mechanism for scoring best submission;
- Assist in the production of bid documents;
- Review design proposals for recommendation to client;
- Create and maintain cost lines using first principals method and market research for each construction element;
- Review scopes of work to assess any redundancies in the design process and recommend ways to reduce costs;
- Provide cost plans and estimates for each construction phase and updating accordingly at appropriate construction milestones;
- Review and verify contractor and subcontractor pricing, costs and proposals;
- Perform cost control, budgeting and change management services;
- Compile as-built estimate records for benchmarking purposes;
- Limit commercial risk to the client through pre contract/post contract risk management;
- Identify outliers, trends and calculating key performance measures;
- Provide procurement and contract advise to clients; RFP strategy, Lump sum, Cost Plus Fee etc.;
- Complete Take Off (Measurement of Quantities) using CostX or equivalent and write estimate reports.
