Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) plays a key role on our multidisciplinary team, providing direct care and supportive supervision to residents living with complex mental health needs. This position blends hands-on support with therapeutic engagement, helping residents participate in activities, maintain daily routines, and work toward recovery goals in a safe, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care and Engagement
Provide assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, and eating
Support residents in developing life skills and maintaining routines
Build therapeutic relationships using trauma-informed, strength-based approaches
Respond calmly and professionally to behavioral escalations and emotional distress
Supportive Supervision and Safety Monitoring
Provide consistent supervision aligned with resident care plans and safety needs
Monitor and document resident behavior, mood changes, and interactions
Conduct routine safety checks and implement safety interventions when necessary
Observe for signs of crisis or distress and respond using trained de-escalation techniques
Activities and Therapeutic Programming
Facilitate and encourage participation in recreational, social, wellness, and life-skills activities
Support residents in transitioning to and from group programs
Collaborate with team members to design inclusive, engaging activity options
Help track resident participation and progress toward therapeutic goals
Resident Engagement and Interaction
Promote positive peer relationships and appropriate social skills
Provide one-on-one support and emotional encouragement
Identify individual strengths and use them to build resident motivation and self-esteem
Assist residents in coping with anxiety, frustration, and interpersonal challenges
Communication and Documentation
Document care, behaviors, incidents, engagement, and supervision in Extended Care Professional (ECP)
Complete daily tasks, progress notes, and incident reports accurately and timely
Maintain clear communication with nursing, mental health professionals, and shift teammates
Participate in care plan reviews, handoff reports, and interdisciplinary meetings
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Washington State CNA or HCA certification (or ability to obtain)
Experience in behavioral health, mental health, halfway house, or a related field strongly preferred
Ability to work with compassion, patience, and professionalism in high-stress situations
Strong communication skills and ability to follow clinical and safety protocols
Must be able to pass background checks and training requirements
