JOB TITLE: Clinical Histotechnologist III
DUTIES:
- Receive, and accession specimens into the laboratory information system (LIS) according to protocol.
- Complete gross description of biopsy specimens.
- Process specimens using cytocentrifugation techniques.
- Prepare slides from paraffin blocks using a microtome.
- Prepare slides from frozen tissue using a cyrostat.
- Perform manual special stain histochemical procedures.
- Perform automated immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization procedures.
- Coverslip slides manually.
- Perform quality control checks for staining and microtomy issues.
- Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory equipment, record data, and file tissue blocks and slides.
- Assume responsibility for reagent and supply inventories.
- Complete maintenance duties related to the IHC area and equipment.
- Participate in the instruction and training of new personnel, students, and interns.
- Write, edit, and update department policies and procedures and sign off on new procedures and revisions.
- Complete a minimum of 8 weeks of on-call rotation each year. On-call duties include carrying the department cellphone, responding to calls in a timely manner, and processing STAT specimens when the department is closed evenings, weekends, and holidays.
REQUIRES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology or biological sciences from an accredited college/university, or the foreign degree equivalent.
- Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification as Histotechnologist, HTL (ASCP).
- Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role.
- Three (3) years of professional histology and/or pathology experience including three (3) years of experience in each of the following:
- Tissue processing
- Embedding
- Microtomy of paraffin and frozen tissues
- Processing non-gynecological specimens with cytocentrifugation
- Performing routine H&E staining and manual special stains
- Completing equipment maintenance
- Performing supply inventory, ordering, and documenting quality control checks
- Accessioning specimens
Experience may be gained concurrently.
SALARY: The base annual salary range for this position is from $84,490 to $126,713 and the pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
