Job DescriptionNorthwest Farm Credit Services is in search of an Accountant (Internally known as High Risk Accountant) to join our Loan Operations and Servicing team in our Spokane, Washington, Headquarters location. Our customers are primarily located in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. This full-time position reports to the Manager-High Risk Accounting and is accountable for providing analysis, monitoring, and accounting for the association's high-risk loan portfolio, and supporting loan accounting functions for servicing and lease transactions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs complex activities related to high risk accounting, including nonaccrual accounting, troubled debt restructures, loans in bankruptcy, foreclosures, judgments, sheriff sales, acquisitions, sale of acquired properties, deficiency judgments, compromise payoffs, calculations, transaction histories, related tax reporting, and interpreting legal documents.
Performs accounting services for loan re-pricings, assumptions, change primary and lease activity.
Ensures accuracy and consistency in accordance with guidelines under accounting standards, regulations, organizational policy and procedure.
Performs monthly and daily report monitoring and reconciling. Ensures the soundness of related income and expenses, charge offs and recoveries, allowances, month-end balancing, and reporting processes of all high risk accounting transactions and servicing.
Provides technical advice and assistance to supported business units, serving as a subject matter expert.
Accurately processes loan accounting and general ledger entries and effectively researches outages, making corrections, resolving problems, reconciling and evaluating risks.
Performs processes, procedures and internal control practices, and makes appropriate recommendations to procedures, policies, business continuity, internal control documentation, and process improvements.
Prepares detailed and organized work papers to support daily work and reconcilements.
Leads or supports related project work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least three years' experience in finance, accounting, or commercial lending.
Understanding of accounting systems, loan accounting, and related financial and management reporting.
Ability to think critically and exercise sound judgment.
Strong knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA License
General understanding of credit related laws and regulations
