As the Retail General Manager (RGM) at Sensory Tool House, you will oversee all store operations, including sales, customer service, and personnel management. Working with the CEO, you will create and implement strategies to increase sales and profitability and manage inventory.
Additionally, you will be part of our leadership team, dedicated to building a culture focused on providing our diverse staff team with a supportive and inclusive working environment and engaging with our customers to provide responsive and personalized service.
SALARY: $57,000 - $65,000 (paid on salary basis if exempt)
STORE OPERATIONS
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the store, including sales, customer service, inventory management, and cash operations.
- Create an affirming, safe and welcoming store environment for customers.
- Ensure store is clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times.
- Manage inventory levels and implement inventory control procedures in cooperation with Inventory Specialists.
- Assist in the management of in-house events and other activities in the community room.
- Participate in large scale community events and other outside events as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Ensure that online and in-store orders are processed and shipped quickly. Manage customer returns and complaints.
- Collaborate with the CEO on implementation of industry trends and best practices.
STRATEGIC GROWTH
- Monitor and analyze store performance data.
- In coordination with the CEO, develop and implement strategies to increase sales and profitability.
- Help devise and implement marketing plans that will drive customer traffic and sales.
- Review products and sales with CEO to determine profitable products to remain in inventory, potential new products to bring into inventory, and products to phase out of inventory.
STAFF SUPERVISION & SUPPORT
- Provide an affirming and supportive environment and reasonable accommodations as needed for staff to grow and thrive.
- Provide direct supervision to retail staff, including customer service, custodial, inventory, and events staff. Provide performance goals, ongoing feedback, and training.
- Ensure staff follow company standards of conduct and policies and required federal and state workplace laws and regulations.
- Create and manage employee schedules to ensure proper staffing for store, events and training.
- Manage employee timesheets, time-off requests, and no-shows in accordance with company policy.
- Recruit staff with a focus on diversity and inclusion. Liaison with supportive employment agencies and local supportive educational programs for hiring.
- In coordination with CEO and HR, update company policies, operations manuals, and other documentation as needed.
- Coordinate with Human Resources as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field OR equivalent years of demonstrated experience in relevant skills for this position.
- Experience in retail management, including experience as a team lead, supervisor, or manager.
- Demonstrated knowledge of neurodiversity, sensory processing, and other related disabilities in all stages of life.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing cash operations.
- Experience assisting with sales and marketing plans.
- Experience in building relationships with stakeholders, such as vendors and contractors.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work Schedule: Full-time position, Monday through Fridays, with flexible working hours, including weekends and occasional evenings as required to meet business needs.
- Office/Store Environment: Comfortable and well-equipped office and retail space that fosters productivity and collaboration.
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required for business-related purposes, such as attending conferences, meetings, trainings/courses, or site visits.
- Physical Demands: May involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or working on a computer. Some lifting or moving of objects will be required. Some reaching, bending, kneeling, and twisting may be required.
