DESCRIPTION OF WORK – SPECIFIC
Working as member of the Equipment Stress Analysis Group designing and analyzing complex mechanical equipment. Prepare design documentation, perform calculations using engineering software, and prepare specifications for complex mechanical equipment used in the waste treatment process and support systems.
- Perform equipment stress analyses using FEA software to produce equipment design calculations, as well as perform reviews of FEA and other submittals prepared by equipment vendors.
- Resolve technical issues related to the equipment design and discuss them with other disciplines, groups, suppliers, and the customer.
- Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines in the development of the design.
- Support the production of the equipment drawings. This may be performed as an individual contributor or leading other engineers.
- Prepare reports and studies in resolving open technical issues related to the equipment design.
- Support development of cost estimates and schedules for mechanical equipment.
- Ensure work is performed to the project’s quality standards for nuclear facilities while executing to the schedule.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with minimum of 3 years related experience. Related experience includes, but is not limited to, the design and fabrication of complex equipment, experience with liquid & gas handling equipment preferred (vessels, tanks, air handling equipment, mixers, etc.).
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards; particularly fabrication and construction of process equipment, including ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, AISC ASD, AISC N690, etc.
- Experience using FEA analysis software (such as ANSYS).
- Some understanding of equipment design; specifically structural, thermal, and dynamic (e.g., seismic modal and response spectra) analyses.
- Experience working with procedures employing quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software for structural and thermal analyses. WTP prefers ANSYS.
- Experience using industry standards such as ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, AISC ASD, and AISC N690.
- Experience producing equipment design calculations.
- Experience producing design documents, including specifications and datasheets that incorporate the applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical Engineering design principles Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), work well with others, and flexible.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge) Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineering license.
- MS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related).
- Experience in DOE or commercial nuclear facilities, particularly in equipment design analysis.
- Experience using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis Software (Mechanical APDL or Workbench).
- US Citizenship.
- Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
