Job Description: Controls the operation of electric induction and resistance furnaces to melt various non-ferrous alloys in preparation for casting process.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Regulates the temperature of the furnace and charges a mixture of gates, scrap, ingot in the correct proportions, and using the correct alloy according to the work order.
- Adds the necessary fluxes and master alloys to each heat.
- Degasses metal as required and tests for the presence of gas in the molten metal.
- Removes molten metal from the furnace when the metal is at the proper pouring temperature.
- Records the temperature and any treatment additions for Quality Control (QC) requirements.
- Removes slag from molten metal and transports (carries) ladles of metal to the proper mold line.
- Pours metal into molds at proper height and rate, compatible with casting’s size and structure.
- Performs any and all other job-related tasks as assigned.
Skills or Experience Required:
- Experience in a non-ferrous metal foundry or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- This job is classified as a Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the US Department of Labor’s Dictionary of Occupational Titles using the following frequencies:
- Occasional (1-33%); Frequent (34-66%); or Continuous (67-100%) of the work.
