Description
GHC is looking for a talented, dedicated, equity-minded, full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach Adult High School Completion (HS+) and GED located at Stafford Creek Correction Center (SCCC) campus of Grays Harbor College. Faculty in HS+ and GED programs are responsible for teaching Adult Basic Education reading, writing, math, GED preparations classes, establishing educational and professional pathways for students, collaborating to shape and develop the program. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the latest standards and practices adult education for HS+ and GED completion programs and can revise the curriculum accordingly. Additional faculty responsibilities include academic student advising, outcomes assessment, committee work, accreditation requirements, and other duties as assigned. The instructor will also be required to attend a 3-week Correctional CORE Worker Training, sponsored by the Department of Corrections. The position will begin in Summer 2024.
HS+ is a program of the state of Washington providing the opportunity for students who need to complete high school to earn a HS diploma using their prior learning and current credit completion to meet current WA State graduation requirements.
The Department of Corrections contracts with Grays Harbor College to provide educational services for offenders. This position is located at Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC). Although safeguards are implemented to protect staff, this work will be performed in a corrections facility where the potential for violence exists. Applicants for this position must be able to pass an N.C.I.C. background check and be cleared to work in a prison. Continual access to the facility is a critical element of employment.

This is a full-time, tenure-track position. The placement on the salary schedule for 214 Day faculty will be determined by education and experience at the time of hire. Full-time faculty will also receive 1 day of sick leave per month and 5 days of personal leave days a year.
Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach HS+ and GED courses maintaining a course load of no more than 20 credit hours per quarter.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise HS+ & GED curricula and instructional materials, including face to face and hybrid classes.
- Learn and use technology to enhance student learning and instructional effectiveness.
- Develop, assign, and assess learning activities appropriate to the course and program learning outcomes. Provide students with course syllabi at the beginning of the quarter and distribute or post appropriate learning resources. Provide instructional feedback and assign grades in a timely manner.
- Maintain and submit accurate academic records, including verification of class rosters, no-show reports, student grades, and student course evaluations by dates requested by the college; use course Canvas page utilizing Universal Design strategies.
- Assess course, program, and institutional student learning outcomes to improve success in teaching and learning.
- Incorporate elements of work ethics and professionalism.
- Maintain a classroom environment that affirms a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrates an understanding of historically disadvantaged populations and awareness of cultural relevance.
- Order and inventory instructional supplies and instructional material.
- Participate in student education and career development through advising, guided pathways activities, and high-impact practices like collaborative assignments and projects, internships, and capstone projects.
- Engage in shared governance by serving on college committees and participating in department, division, and college meetings.
- Stay current in Washington State high school and GED graduation requirements through professional development, professional organizations, and professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree in secondary education or related field OR a Bachelor’s degree with professional experience teaching adult education.
- One-year successful teaching experience with adults or middle/secondary school level or experience working historically disadvantaged populations.
- Recent Adult Learner teaching experience.
- Experience with curriculum revision and development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in education or closely related discipline (English, Reading, Writing, Math) from an accredited institution.
- Experience with culturally responsive teaching that supports the success of students and staff from historically disadvantaged populations, or similar experience in industry.
- Demonstrated experience working to close equity gaps in education.
- Familiarity with the latest standards in HS and GED instruction.
- Experience the curriculum and program development.
- Experience working in the correctional setting.
